The 2026 World Barista Championship (WBC) is scheduled to take place in Panama City, Panama, from October 22 to 25, 2026, marking the first time the prestigious competition will be held in the country. The championship will be staged at the Panama Convention Center as the headline event of the inaugural World of Coffee Panama, the first World of Coffee trade exhibition ever organized in Central America. The selection of Panama reflects the region’s growing influence within the global specialty coffee industry, with the country widely recognized for producing some of the world’s most sought-after coffees, particularly its celebrated Geisha varieties.
More than 50 national barista champions are expected to compete after qualifying through their respective national championships. Each competitor will represent an authorized Competition Body, earning the opportunity to contend for one of the coffee industry’s most prestigious titles. Organized by World Coffee Championships (WCC) under the umbrella of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), the event brings together the highest-ranked baristas from around the world to demonstrate technical expertise, sensory precision, creativity, and hospitality.
The competition follows the established World Barista Championship format. During their performance, each competitor prepares and serves four espressos, four milk beverages, and four signature beverages within a strict 15-minute presentation. Certified judges evaluate each routine using detailed technical and sensory criteria, assessing factors such as beverage quality, extraction consistency, presentation, workflow, cleanliness, and overall customer experience. Only the highest-scoring competitors advance through successive rounds before a new World Barista Champion is crowned.
Beyond the championship itself, the event forms part of a major international gathering for the specialty coffee sector. World of Coffee Panama is expected to attract thousands of coffee professionals, including producers, exporters, importers, roasters, equipment manufacturers, café owners, and researchers from around the world. The exhibition will feature educational lectures, product demonstrations, cupping sessions, networking opportunities, and trade exhibitions, making the 2026 World Barista Championship not only a showcase of elite barista performance but also a significant platform for innovation, knowledge exchange, and international collaboration within the global coffee industry.
